Description
SLP 100 describes how speech-language pathologists and other professionals can use Cued Speech to address a variety of speech, language, and literacy goals for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, as well as for other populations. Each module includes activities for practice and application.
The course is composed of six video course modules. Each video is approximately 15 minutes in length, and ends with a practice/application activity that requires 15 minutes to complete. Total time of videos and related activities: 180 minutes.

Learning Objectives: As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the components of Cued Speech.
2. Describe how Cued Speech can be used as a strategy for speech-language therapy for both deaf and hearing children forarticulation/phonology needs, for language development and intervention, and for phonemic awareness/pre-literacy development.
3. Compare and contrast Cued Speech and other visual cueing/prompting techniques.
4. Demonstrate a brief therapy activity utilizing cues for single phonemes, syllables, words, or sentences, depending on the participant’s level of cueing skill.
You will have access to this course during the period of your enrolled Offering. If requesting CEUs, you must complete all the course requirements during your enrolled time period in order to have your CEUs honored. Instructor BIO:
Dr. Cathy Rasmussen, Ph.D., CCC-SLPCATHY is the Dean of the School of Health & Human Services and Director of the York Wellness & Rehabilitation Institute at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. She was formerly co-director of the Deafness Specialty Preparation program, conducted jointly by Nazareth and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. A former president of the National Cued Speech Association, she is a certified instructor and trainer of instructors, with more than 30 years of experience using and teaching Cued Speech. She has presented to many local, regional, and national audiences.

Your enrollment in SLP100 also entitles you to attend an optional interactive Zoom session with the instructor of the course, Dr. Cathy Rasmussen, CCC-SLP during office hours for the period of time during your enrolled offering. Instructions for signing up for and attending your interactive session are provided in the course itself.
To earn ASHA CEUs and a Cue College Certificate of Completion, the following requirements must be met:
1.) Complete the Acknowledgement CEU form found in your “Welcome Letter” email.
2.) Read and view all course pages.
3.) View ALL six course video Modules.
4.) Complete ALL six module Application, Practice, and Review Activities.
5.) Achieve a minimum score of 80% on the multiple choice quiz (quizzes can be repeated if needed).
6.) Complete the final Course Evaluation no later than 2 days AFTER the end of your registered course offering.
Upon successful completion of course requirements and all criteria met, learners will be issued a Certificate of Completion.
If you have signed up for the course with the expectation of earning ASHA CEUs, kindly complete the provided form located in your “Welcome” Letter at the bottom ***CEUs (Continuing Education Units)*** [Important note: When you sign up for this course and request CEUs, you must complete the course expectations within the time allotted for your offering in order to receive your CEU credit. If you do not complete the course by the end of your offering, you will still have access (read only) to the course, but CEUs will not be issued.]
Certificates are created and emailed on a monthly basis after successful completion of the requirements stated in the course. Participants in this course must meet the requirements for completion if requesting ASHA CEUs.. Individuals who do not meet the requirements will not be recommended for ASHA CEUs.
